CM108 USB Fob

The CM108 USB board is commonly used in AllStarLink (including HamVOIP's AllStar node) setups because it provides the necessary hardware interface between the computer and a radio. The card functions as a "sound card interface" for the radio, allowing it to transmit and receive audio signals to/from the AllStar system

Removing The Sockets
The first task was to remove the microphone and speaker sockets. I used a small hot air blower to heat the legs and then carefully removed each socket.

Removing The 3 Components
The next step was to remove two resistors (R6 and R7) and one capacitor (C2). I used a small hot air blower to gently heat each component, though a soldering iron would have worked just as well.

Adding The IC Wiring
Adding the two wires to the main CM108 IC was likely the most challenging part, I first prepared the wires by cutting two pieces to the required length, then tinning them thoroughly before carefully soldering them to the IC's pins.

CM108 Mockup
This is a mockup illustrating how I propose to wire the CM108 USB board, including the addition of an LED that will light up when the Node Radio is in transmit mode.
